Choose the Correct Resolution

No matter how beautiful your wallpaper is, if it is not in a high enough resolution and has corresponding aspect ratio, it will look grainy and unclear. To avoid such an odd looking background wallpaper, you should know the specs of your monitor before you start looking for great wallpapers.

Screen resolutions are indicated in pixels, such as 800 x 600, which means the number of pixels your monitor can exhibit horizontally (800) and vertically (600). The resolution also indicates that the monitor in this example comes in an aspect ratio of 4:3 (horizontal : vertical pixels).

If you want a perfect wallpaper, it should meet two criteria:

1. Sufficiently high resolution
2. Matching aspect ratio

So now, how will you find the resolution and aspect ratio of your monitor?

For Windows 7: If you right click on the desktop, you can select Screen resolution and take a look at the number beside >Resolution.

For Windows XP: If you right click on the desktop, you can select Properties and switch to the Settings tab. Under the Screen resolution you will see a slider in the bottom left.

Use Multiple Wallpapers

For Windows 7: You can customize your computer including your desktop by right clicking and selecting Personalize. A window will open at the bottom of which you will have to click Desktop Background. Then from Picture Location, select the folder in which you have stored the wallpapers. You can even click Browse to create a custom folder. Select all the wallpapers you want and select Picture position define to Change picture every… and also check Shuffle to avoid seeing the same sequence every time. Click Save Changes and enjoy a new wallpaper everyday!

For Windows XP: As such there is no inbuilt tool in Windows XP to shuffle your wallpapers. You will have to take help of a third party application and do it.
