/*Comments Off on Top 5 Things to Consider while Buying a Laptop */

laptop buying tipsWe need a laptop at some or the other point of time in life. Sadly, buying one has become more complicated than it should be, because of a number of laptops arrived in the market. Well established companies like Dell, Lenovo and HP sell endless varieties of laptops. Naturally, buyers are confused about which one is right for them. While it’s difficult to give some straightforward recommendations because every user has a different set of needs, some broad guidelines can be given which you can remember while making a purchase.

1. Look for the Best Screen

Always look for a laptop that can give you the best screen in your budget. Here the best means three things:

  1. Panel type
  2. Size
  3. Resolution

If you are spending a significant amount on your laptop, ideally it should have an IPS display. If a laptop is much better in other aspects, like the Apple MacBook Air, it can be excluded from this rule. Then you should consider the resolution. Choose a laptop having a higher-resolution screen among its equivalents. It’s also possible now to get laptops with FullHD screens. Regarding size, if you want a good portability, choose a laptop with a smaller screen. If you want a laptop for watching a lot of movies, choose one with a bigger screen.

2. Weight is Important

If you want a laptop that will be used mostly at home, anything is alright. However, if you want a portable one which you will carry in a backpack for most of the time, choose one that is lighter. If you want a work laptop, stick to one having a screen size of 14 inches or less.

3. More the RAM, the Better

4GB RAM is absolute minimum for a decent experience. However, 8GB is recommended. If you want to do plenty of photo and video editing, you are recommended to buy a 16GB RAM. Even though you want a laptop in a more affordable range, consider a machine having a higher RAM compared to others.

4. Find SSD or SSD Cache

When you choose a laptop with SSD or SSD cache, whether it is 8GB or 16GB, you get faster speed and response. If your budget allows, prioritize these laptops even though they feature a smaller hard disk, like 500GB instead of 750GB.

5. Older Processors are Okay

It’s better to have Core i series processors. Although they are a generation old, they are better than the latest generation Pentiums. So, if you have to choose between the two at the same price, go with the one with Core i. Same way, the Pentium gives better performance than Atom and though Pentium is from a two-year old generation, it’s fine to get it.
