New 7-Eleven App Allows Drivers to Lock in Cheapest Fuel Price

/*Comments Off on New 7-Eleven App Allows Drivers to Lock in Cheapest Fuel Price */

7-Eleven Fuel AppOn March 3rd, 7-Eleven launched its mobile app – the first of its types on the planet – that lets drivers lock in the cheapest petrol price.

App users can lock a fuel price for up to seven days, and search the five closest 7-Eleven stores based on a motorist’s current physical location. The mobile app uses the phone’s location services, and must be turned on to work.

Using a user’s location, the app will locate the lowest fuel price nearby. Users can then register for 7-Eleven’s digital wallet, which allows them to select a voucher for the type and amount of fuel they’d like the voucher for. They can choose any amount between 10 and 150 litres.

However, the discount is only available for one transaction – regardless if more or less fuel is needed. In addition, the app will only allow a voucher to be used for one fuel type per transaction – no more.

7-Eleven has designed a maximum timeframe to prevent misuse, which makes the offer only available for 15 minutes. After that, the offer will change if they do not purchase the voucher.

Petrol prices can be checked 100 times every week, but are only enabled to lock in a maximum of two prices in a 24-hour time period.

If users lock in a low price but discover the price is lower when they go to fuel, app users will be given the lowest price. Motorists are only charged for petrol when they are filling up their tanks.

The mobile app has been in development for over 18 months. It was tested over a five-month period in all 628 of Australia’s stores, and 7-Eleven allowed users to provide consumer testing and feedback.

The mobile app was launched just shy of a week after NSW Innovation Minister, Victor Dominello, revealed he would introduce new legislation that would mandate service station operators to provide real-time price data via a consumer price map application.

7-Eleven hopes its new app will put its company ahead of their competitors Woolworths and Coles – both of which offer fuel discounts – and remain Australia’s favorite convenient store.

They hope to continue providing exclusive products and discounts to their customers, and allow users to have more options and easier access to low petrol prices.

The app is currently available for iOS and Android devices, and can be downloaded in the App Store and Google Play.
